The Eurovision Song Contest Circus

This week we're in for it again: tomorrow and on Thursday will be the semi finals for the Eurovision Song Contest. Like it or hate it, but you can't escape it. On radio and TV there is constant talk about it and idem dito when you open a newspaper.

Our country, Belgium, takes part in the semi final of Tuesday. Our candidate is the French-speaking singer Axel Hirsoux, who'll perform a song titled Mother. It's a ballad and I must say the guy has a grand voice, going towards a tenor. Something the likes of Paul Potts or Andrea Bocelli.

I don't know of course if he will stand a chance. It's no circus on stage, like we so often see (mostly from the former USSR-countries). No dwarfs or singing grandma's, no clowns, no monsters. Just one man and his great voice - and a song that is not bad.

Will this be enough? It depends on what the juries of this year will want. Sometimes they go for a ballad. If so, Axel does have a chance because the theme of his song (the love for his mother) is universal.

Let's see on Tuesday (there will be nothing on but)!
