Nearly 30 years ago, a young woman of 26 was murdered in mysterious circumstances in Knokke-Heist. Up to no there still is no trace of a possible killer - and the case will expire in a couple of months. That's why the parents of the murdered woman lance a last appeal to the general public.
It all happened in 1991. The date was March, 16th. Ingrid Caekaert was a young woman of 26, a real estate worker. Some days before, she had received a bouquet of purple flowers, which she'd thrown in the dustbin. That day, she left her office around noon to have lunch at her flat in the neighborhood. That flat was situated at the Heldenplein (Heroes' Square) in Heist, a central point in town. She took the lift to her flat on the 7th floor, where apparently the killer was waiting for her. She was stabbed numerous times and left dying on the stairs between the seventh and sixth floors. A neighbor found her there. While that woman ran downstairs to call for the emergency services, the killer must have escaped.
The big question is how it happened that noboby saw a man (because of that they're sure by now) covered in blood, running throught the streets towards his car?
And who permitted the man to enter the block of flats? Entrance doors to blocks of flats are always locked and it's up to the owners to allow someone entrance.
It's been an intriguing case from the start. What the inspectors know by now is that neither the parents or Ingrid's boyfriend are among the suspects. The boyfriend was present at a congress at the time, and has lots of witnesses for that. Fact is that Ingrid was afraid before her death. She had discovered some unsavory facts about the real estate business in Knokke, but she refused to say anything about it to her parents. And after her death, the same purple flowers were put on her tombstone.
I wonder if this case will ever be resolved.
