The asparagus season is coming

Thanks to the very mild weather we're been having these last months - no winter at all - the asparagus farmers announce their first harvests will be before Easter.

Normally you can have asparagus in May and June, more or less six weeks. It's a speciality of our parts, as the Flemish asparagus are the best in the world.

I do love eating asparagus - I could eat them every day during the season. They are not quite cheap, but not over expensive either.

You can combine asparagus with about every item, but I prefer them the Flemish style. We eat them with boiled potatoes and baked pork along with lots of onion in the meat sauce. The asparagus are peeled, cooked and then served with a Flemish sauce - which is based on butter, eggs and parsley.

Yummy, yummy! I also like soup with fresh asparagus, or fish dishes containing asparagus. And the very best are asparagus served with lobster - but then you really have an expensive dish!
