FTD: Rijstpap

Rijstpap is a beloved desert in Flanders, among young and old. Especially now the weather is turning colder, it’s nice to find a bowl or plate of this sweet desert waiting for you when you come home!


What do you need?
1 liter of milk (don’t use skinned milk)
130 gr of sugar
2 egg yolks

saffron and a vanilla       
butter (if wanted)            


How do you make it?
Wash the rice. Boil the fresh milk. Add sugar, vanilla and saffron. Only then add the rice. Keep it boiling slowly on a low fire for about 30 minutes. Remove the rijstpap from the fire when it is still fluid, because it will stiffen up when it’s cooling down. Now add the egg yolks and, if you like, a little bit of butter.

Serve the rijstpap with brown sugar. Enjoy!
